Official World Record is a record of world records founded in Catalonia, (European Union), in 2010, and is the first Catalan record, worldwide, a direct competitor of the other reference record, the Guinness World Records. The difference between the two records is that the Official World Record is much younger, founded in the 21st century, faster and with criteria that are closer to today's society, and the Guinness is older and with criteria that are sometimes seen out of date.
As an example we have the recent case of a nurse who ran the London Marathon in a current outfit from her hospital and that the Guinness did not recognize for not wearing an apron skirt and cap, and that the Official World Record registered (2). For this and other reasons, Official World Record is gaining great prestige worldwide and recognition that has led it to break Guinness records as the largest Spanish omelette in the world (3) or the rugby scrum with the most participants.
In 2010, the first year of existence, it had more than 50 world records inscribed, among others, the largest flag in the world displayed at the Camp Nou in August 2004.
But apart from the Catalan records, it has registered many other records from all over the world such as the world's largest rugby scrum made in Madrid, (8) or in the same city the world record for penalty shoot-out (inclusive) with the Sanitas Foundation during Inclusive Sports Week (9). Also other important records in America such as the largest number of apartments sold in less than 20 hours starring Jürgen Klaric (10), or the largest poetry book in the world written in Puerto Rico (11) are just some examples. As well as medical records in South Korea (12) and the Philippines with knee operations or very elderly patients, or other more conventional but no less spectacular such as the largest diamond in the world or the tallest building. A variety of categories make up its database of world records, specialized in inclusive records often starring extraordinary people with some type of physical impairment.
Any world record to be officially accepted must go through its International Acceptance Committee and comply with the regulations of each specific record to be accepted, validated and officially registered by the adjudicators, who issue certificates and trophies for each record.
The aims of the association are:Promote, verify, catalog and register world records.
Its authorized members adjudicate, verify and verify the authenticity of world records, elaborate the regulations to establish them and to overcome them.Promote world records among non-profit entities, NGOs, for charitable purposes, and for people with disabilities or fundamentally social problems. As a basic tool to publicize social causes, or promotion to raise funds for entities aimed at providing services to the community.Promote inclusive world records, where no one is excluded from being able to star in a world record for having any type of disability or mental or physical problem. To make a record is to break the limits of people to achieve a desire for collective improvement for the human condition, and everyone is capable of reaching further and exceeding their limits. Promote what each person can contribute to the rest of humanity.
In addition to that, also one of the purposes is to help disseminate exceptional places and events from around the world to society in general to help the dissemination of culture and collective knowledge.
For all these reasons and purposes to be developed, the association has been considered an NGO since its main purpose is to help achieve and disseminate facts or personal improvements. It has a database of world records that it periodically publishes on its website, both for human achievements and exceptional world events. Official World Record has increased its global database and knowledge by working closely with other local record registries such as the Korea Record Institute (KRI), the leading record-keeping authority in South Korea. The Korea Record Institute is its exclusive representative in South Korea, and records registered through it are eligible for worldwide recognition by Official World Record. It also sponsors other organizations such as Everest World Records (EWR), the leading record-keeping authority in Nepal or the Universal Record Forum (URF), the leading record-keeping authority in India. History:
The origin of Official World Record was based on the knowledge that several founders had of the extreme slowness of Guinness and the reluctance to record some records following absurd or outdated regulations that the company had. Thus, these people ended up considering the creation of the first inclusive record registry and without prioritizing parameters.
